Making a Gift through Your Will
When you name Liberty Foundation in your will as a recipient of a specific amount or percentage of your estate, you are making one final gift—your crowning gift—to an organization you have supported during your life. You can also give a gift that increases the value of your estate for your heirs, ensuring that your assets will go to them with significantly reduced gift and estate tax consequences.

If you have arranged for an estate gift through a will or other transfer document, we would like to know so we can thank you while you are here. We want to express appreciation for your confidence in our future and honor your prudent planning. Of course, if you wish, we will treat news of your bequest plans anonymously.

Today, Does Your Will Work?
It has been said, “Everyone should have a will!” It is an important document which shows your final concern for family, friends and charities you favor.

Today, does your will work? Some wills won’t. For example, if your state requires the signatures of two disinterested witnesses and a beneficiary of your will signs as a witness, your will may not work.

An out-of-date will that fails to take full advantage of current estate tax law may not work well either. It could cost thousands in added taxes. Nor can you feel confident in a will that has not been updated to reflect major changes in your family life or financial affairs.

Does your will accomplish everything you want it to do? Is it up-to-date? Is it valid? Have you focused on the important planning for disposition of property you own? Do you even have a will?

We at Liberty Foundation want you to have the peace of mind that comes from knowing you have a valid estate plan. We want you to have a will that works well for you. And, frankly, one that works for us—one that includes a bequest to Liberty Foundation, Inc. of Amsterdam, New York.

It’s amazing how often people say, “I never thought about making a charitable gift through my will. It just never occurred to me.”

When you name Liberty Foundation, Inc., in your will (or living trust) to receive a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, you make one final gift—your crowning gift—to an organization you have supported during your life. This is an ultimate reflection of your personal values. You declare in your Last Will and Testament that you believe in the mission of Liberty ARC and that you want a portion of your accumulated assets to be invested in furthering the good work of this worthy cause.

If you have arranged for an estate gift through a will or other transfer document, we would like to know so we can thank you while you are here. We want to express appreciation for your confidence in our future. We want to honor you for your prudent planning. Of course, if you wish, we will treat news of your bequest plans anonymously.

Please, let us know of your giving plans. If you want to talk with a representative of Liberty ARC about your gift and estate plans, or need confidential information about planning, please feel free to contact Barbara Wool at 518.954.3202.

As always, we urge you to consult with an estate-planning attorney or other qualified advisor regarding a will, a living trust or whatever else may best suit your needs. Sound professional help will contribute to your peace of mind—and that of your family.

Outright Gifts of Appreciated Securities
Long-term appreciated securities are stocks or bonds that have been owned for at least a year and have increased in value. Making a gift of appreciated securities benefits a donor in two ways: the donor receives a charitable income tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities and, at the same time, avoids capital gains taxes on the appreciated securities. The gain is measured by the difference between the cost basis (the amount originally paid for the stock), and its current fair market value.

Just let us know of your intent and we will provide the information needed to make a direct transfer to our brokerage account.

Giving a Gift of Your Home or Other Real Estate

An ideal way to assist Liberty Foundation is by contributing real estate, whether it is your personal residence, vacation home or farm, etc.

You can make plans to contribute such property now, while retaining the use of your home or other real estate throughout your lifetime. Contributing a home, farm or other real estate can produce handsome income tax deductions at little out-of-pocket expense, while at the same time providing a generous deferred gift to the Liberty Foundation.

Making a Gift of Your Life Insurance
An excellent means for you to make a tax-deductible gift is through your life insurance. This can be either a newly-purchased policy, or all or a portion of a policy you currently own. You can name Liberty Foundation as the beneficiary of the policy.

For further information please contact me, Barbara Wool, at 518.954.3202 or email me at BarbW@libertyarc.org. I will be happy to assist you in making a planned gift to Liberty Foundation.
