What is Liberty Foundation and What Does it Do?

Generally, people in our community know about Liberty and its programs, but they may not be familiar with the role of Liberty Foundation, Inc.

The Foundation is a separate 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation established in 1993 by Liberty’s Board of Directors. It was founded specifically to ensure that vital family support and other services, which are not funded through government programs, are available now and will be here for future generations.

The Liberty Foundation Board of Directors provides endowment monies to Liberty for the purpose of funding Liberty’s Family Support Services and other worthy projects or requests from organizations and individuals with disabilities in Montgomery County.

To date, more than $4,100,000 has been allocated for Liberty’s family support programs and other worthy community projects.

Today, approximately 270 individuals benefit from Liberty Family Support Services. Here is a sampling of the programs funded by Liberty Foundation, Inc.: evening and weekend recreation, school recess and after-school programs, camping experiences, and respite.

Liberty Foundation has also provided funding for worthy programs benefiting individuals with disabilities in the community such as partial funding of the elevator at Amsterdam Free Library, access ramps for churches attended by individuals with disabilities, annual grants to Special Olympics Area 9 for equipment and travel expenses, grants to Montgomery County Transitional Services and Mental Health Association for children’s programs and a variety of other allocations.
