The
Liberty Enterprises vocational program provides training in skill
development, job related social skills, and an opportunity for employment.
Individuals enrolled in the program have a wide range of needs and
backgrounds; some have had extensive employment histories while
others have never worked and are just starting their work career.
The production
department focuses on developing jobs and product
lines that will provide work opportunities for participants
in the program. Liberty Enterprises' production & marketing
staff seek work opportunities that meet a variety of needs and job
interests. Through the procurement of state and federal contracts,
the Liberty provides consistent and challenging work for consumers.
The work areas
operated by Liberty Enterprises include jobs related to: material
handling, machine operation, quality control, assembly, janitorial,
food service, and grounds maintenance. The program operates a work
center on Route 5S as well a Machine Shop at Venner Road, Amsterdam and a crew which cleans toll booths on
the NYS Thruway.
The following
services are offered through the Vocational Program:
Nursing:
On site nursing services and coordination with
community providers.
- Counseling:
Each consumer works with a rehabilitation counselor on developing
vocational and personal goals and strategies to attain those goals.
Case management services and advocacy for benefits, housing, legal
rights, etc. is also offered.
- Adult
Education: Provided in cooperation with local school districts
continuing adult education is offered through computer software
programs.
- Transportation:
Services are provided to and from the program daily.
- Self Advocacy
Group: Consumers meet monthly to discuss issues, complaints,
concerns, current events, and program feedback. Minutes are maintained
by a staff liaison and distributed to the Board of Directors monthly.
The consumers meet directly with the Board two times a year.
