Building Bright Futures Capital Campaign

Working Together

Liberty has played an important role in our community for over 54 years by offering individuals with developmental disabilities opportunities and choices that have enriched their lives. We measure our success in the everyday personal achievements of the people we support.

We hope to raise $1.3 million in this first capital campaign in Liberty’s history.  We embark upon this campaign knowing that this is the right direction for the people we support, for Liberty and for our community. Each person in Liberty’s program faces challenges everyday that many of us cannot imagine. The goal of the Building Bright Futures Capital Campaign is to give individuals a chance to be contributing, valued members of the community. We have seen firsthand how lives can be changed when we focus on helping each person discover his or her abilities and uncover their hidden strengths.

We ask you to join us in making this fund raising effort a success. Every gift to the Building Bright Futures Campaign will have an impact on the lives of people with disabilities in our community now…and in the future.

Members of the Montgomery County and Canajoharie Palatine Chamber, campaign donors and Liberty representatives celebrated the opening of the first project of Liberty’s Building Bright Futures Capital Campaign at a Ribbon-Cutting/Business After Hours mixer on April 21st.  The new facility, known as Mohawk Day Hab, is located at 91 West Main Street, Canajoharie.

 The Projects

The Building Bright Futures Capital Campaign is unique because the projects included in this effort are being approached incrementally. It is anticipated that some of the facilities will be completed and operational before others begin construction. This is a bit of a departure, since typically capital campaigns involve new construction or expansion of one facility.

Two of the projects involve acquisition and renovation of facilities that will enable Liberty to continue an initiative to move all of the individuals now at our large day facility to smaller program sites in the community. While each of the two new day habilitation sites will have its own distinct character, they all will consist of program rooms, clinical areas and other space that will be used for similar purposes.

Construction has been completed on the former medical clinic at 91 West Main Street, Canajoharie.   The building, which opened in February, 2011, has been transformed into a state-of-the-art day program facility.

The residential project in the campaign involves renovation and expansion of Liberty’s residence at 189 Moyer Street in Canajoharie, now home to eight individuals.
