From November 26th-December 10th, various themed wreaths are on display at Amsterdam City Hall as a fundraiser to help aid the Old Fort Johnson flood relief. Joey Then (pictured here) and other individuals in a few of the day supports programs volunteered to create two different wreaths to be auctioned off at City Hall. The two wreaths were named, “Rack the Halls” & “A Toast to the New Year,” came out beautifully!

At the October 5 Safety Committee meeting, a presentation was made by Dennis Yacobucci on behalf of the agency Directors and the Safety Committee to Joe Rice of Vrooman Avenue. Joe acted responsibly when he heard a carbon monoxide detector at his residence alarm and evacuated as well as called 911 to alert the fire department and get help.
His quick action to do the right thing and evacuate is exactly what we train all agency staff and individuals to do. We commend Joe on this action, which could have saved his life and the lives of others in his house. Congratulations, Joe!

The following is an excerpt from the recognition submitted to SANYS by Liberty’s Self Advocates:
Georgeann is a wonderful staff who support us a lot. She supports us by assisting a group of us to go to FM and take college courses. She is always been there for us when we need a person to talk to when we are having a problem. We really like hanging out with her as she enjoys some of the same music and activities we like and we all have a good time. We have two individuals in our program that she does a great job providing hand on care to daily and the two really appreciate her work as we all do.
Georgeann is a very caring person we all like to be with. All the consumers in our program love being in groups with her as the staff. She really enjoys the line dancing, art and shopping groups. Georgeann is willing to do things that may not be as fun like assisting others to clean up our parks, but she always does this with a smile. Georgeann is always happy and upbeat and willing to work no matter what the job is or how she is feeling. Georgeann has a wonderful sense of humor and silliness putting smiles on our faces daily. Georgeann is an avid coffee drinker and loves taking her groups to the local stewarts for coffee breaks. Georgeann not only provides good services to us, she also volunteers her time at a local fire department.

Empowering Connections
By, Heather Purtell
A friendship starts like a seed
Floating on the breeze the tiny seed drops
The future continues wherever it stops
A new beginning
Slowly roots form in the fertile ground
And anchor where there is no sound
A foundation starts
A seedling, a sapling, an infant, a child
no one will stop us, we grow free and wild
No boundaries
The young tree grows, it branches and bends
It will not break, there is no end
Endless determination
The leaves overlap, we walk hand in hand
Alone or together we will make a stand
Empowerment
