Support Employee of the Year: Beverly Salvo

The next Liberty ARC Employee of the Year winner we would like to recognize is Bev Salvo!
Bev is an Administrative Assistant in the agency’s Public Relations (PR) and Development Department and received the Support Employee of the Year award.
“I feel very honored to receive this recognition, especially because I was nominated by my peers who I think so highly of,” Bev said. “There are so many people here who deserve recognition, and I hope every one of them feels valued because each person here has an important role.”
Bev has been with the agency for nearly 26 years, beginning her career as a Residential Secretary in 1999 until 2003 when she transitioned to her current role in the PR Department. When Bev first applied she was looking for a job in an office setting that would allow her to be home in the evenings with her daughter, who has a disability.
“What has kept me here for 25 years is the flexibility and understanding I have received when it comes to my family, and the great team of people I worked with in Schenectady and now in Amsterdam,” Bev said. “Having a child of my own with a disability, I am very passionate about the agency’s mission and find it rewarding to be a part of the big picture here.”
In the Public Relations Department, some of Bev’s duties include assisting the PR team with promoting the agency, creating awareness around advocacy efforts, and raising funds for Liberty Foundation through their various events. Specifically, Bev assists with a lot of design projects by designing print materials such as brochures, Liberty ARC’s Annual Report, and event flyers. Bev also covers stories on things happening within the agency in Schenectady County.
“The work we do at Liberty ARC is so important, and I’m proud to be a part of the agency’s mission,” Bev said. “I enjoy interacting with the people that we support and seeing how our services and supports are making a difference in their lives. We’ve come so far in this field. It’s phenomenal to watch as this field continues to grow, change, and improve so the people we support can live their best lives.”
With such a rich history with the agency, Bev has witnessed so many memorable moments. One of Bev’s favorite memories is when the agency had a relationship with Channel 16, a local public broadcasting station, and the people supported would make appearances on the Schenectady Today Show with Dolores Scalise. Once a month, a person supported by the agency was highlighted and talked about the successes that they were proud of on the live show, including where they worked and volunteer activities they took part in.
“It was a nice opportunity to create awareness of the great things happening at the agency and to gain supporters,” Bev said. “The people we support were very proud to share their stories, and it was very rewarding getting to see them in their moment to shine!”
Congratulations, Bev, on this wonderful achievement! Thank you for all your hard work that is making a direct impact in the lives of the people we support!
